Watch: Battery catches fire in recycling lorry

CCTV footage has captured the moment a lorry rushed back to its yard after waste it was carrying caught fire.

Workers used large hoses to extinguish the flames on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate in Basildon, Essex, on Monday.

A thermal imaging camera showed some of the material was still alight as they then used diggers to pull it from the trailer.

Clearaway Recycling Ltd said it was caused by a lithium battery catching fire and described it as "one of the scariest calls you can get in the waste industry".
