A free outdoor photography exhibition celebrating marine life in the waters off the Sussex coast is being launched.

The exhibition, organised by Sussex Wildlife Trust, is set to "reveal the hidden wonders of our coastal waters" when it opens at Brighton Seafront Gallery on Monday.

Secrets Beneath the Sea features creatures such as cuttlefish, sea anemones, seals, lobsters and crabs.

Sarah Ward, marine officer at the charity, said: "Sussex seas are full of life that most people will never see and we want to change that."

Organisers say visitors will discover more about the UK's largest marine rewilding effort, the Sussex Kelp Recovery Project, which provides "vital coastal habitat for Sussex sea life".

"The exhibition also explores why protecting these habitats and the wildlife that depends on them matters," a Sussex Wildlife Trust spokesperson said.

Angus Light, from Locate Productions, which is supporting the exhibition, said: "Presenting nature photography with a creative twist, that appeals to a younger crowd and to people who might not normally engage in this subject matter, is an exciting way to do this.

"And it being in a public space, viewable for free, 24 hours a day for five weeks is even better."

The exhibition runs until 19 July.
