A teenager who died in a car crash which left four other people injured has been identified.

Lucas Littlefair, 19, died on Sunday evening when the Volkswagen Passat he was driving crashed with a Citroen C3 travelling in the opposite direction on Hesleden Road, near Blackhall Colliery in County Durham.

The VW's passengers, two boys and a girl, all 17, and a 22-year-old woman who was driving the Citroen, were taken to hospital and later discharged.

The teenager's family said he was a treasured son, brother, grandson, and boyfriend who had been "cruelly snatched from us much too soon".

"Lucas was loved more than he can ever know," they said.

"We will never forget him or ever stop loving him, and will miss him dearly."

In a statement released by Durham Police, they said the teenager, from Hesleden, had a passion for motorbikes and loved spending time with friends, family and girlfriend when he was not working.

They added: "He brought so much happiness to all our lives and we have so many memories as a family that we will never forget."

Durham Police is asking anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened at about 19:15 BST, or who had dashcam footage to contact them.
