Cadbury said the limited edition bars would be dipped in caramelised white chocolate

Excitement is building among chocolate fans as Cadbury confirms it will be releasing a new bar this year - a caramelised, white chocolate-dipped Twirl bar.

The Birmingham-based firm said the "golden dipped" limited edition bars would go on sale later in the year.

A spokesperson promised further details when they are launched , adding "they will be worth the wait".

The company released a version of the bar dipped in white chocolate last year and rumours spread online of the new gold-dipped bar.

The company, along with other manufacturers, has faced criticism as its range fell victim to price rises and so-called "shrinkflation" with increased raw material and production costs.

It has also mounted a defence against claims on social media that its main Dairy Milk recipe had declined in quality, insisting that its ingredients in the UK "had not changed for more than 40 years", and that palm oil helped give it the texture consumers expected.

Cadbury explained caramelised white chocolate in the new product was different to caramel.

The firm already makes a range of products involving caramel flavours, including caramel eggs, caramilk bars and the famous Cadbury's caramel bars.
