Chocolatiers create 'world's largest' Mini Egg

Chocolatiers at Cadbury World have unveiled what they say is the "world's largest" Mini Egg.

Dubbed the Mega Mini Egg, the behemoth 70cm-tall (27.5in) milk chocolate treat will be displayed at the site in Bournville, Birmingham, for two weeks from Monday.

The attraction's chocolatiers Claire Fielding, Dawn Jenks and Donna Pitt created the 55kg (121lb) treat over two days.

Fielding said they hatched the plan after a gigantic Creme Egg wooed chocolate-lovers last year.

Encased in a pastel-pink sugar shell coating, the mighty mouthful weighs the same as an adult cheetah, a super-bantamweight boxer, or a single wardrobe.

Fielding described Mini Eggs as an "absolute favourite and a British Easter staple".

"We took that instantly recognisable shell and chocolate centre and scaled it up into a real showstopper," she said.

"It's been so rewarding seeing it come to life, and we can't wait for visitors to come and see it in person this Easter."

The brand was one of a number of Easter treats to come under fire earlier this year over shrinkflation claims, as chocolate prices rose as part of an ongoing cocoa shortage.
