More than 60 firefighters have tackled a large heathland fire on the Hampshire-Surrey border.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said the fire at Blackwater near Camberley was reported shortly after 13:30 BST.

At its height, the fire spread to approximately 10 hectares of heath and woodland. Firefighters used hose reels and specialist wildfire equipment to bring it under control and prevent it spreading further.

Road closures were put place and people were urged to avoid the area.

On Saturday evening, HIWFRS said a reduced number of crews would remain at the scene overnight to maintain fire breaks, carry out damping down and extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Fire services across the south of England have warned that a few days of hot weather have "greatly increased" the risk of wildfires as the country experiences its third heatwave of 2026.
