Teen's car narrowly misses pedestrians before crash
A teenage motorist who failed to stop for police before crashing into a building in a city centre has been banned from driving.
Mohammed Halani drove dangerously in the Lincoln Road area of Peterborough on 24 May, ignoring keep-left bollards and no-entry signs while attempting to evade officers, Cambridgeshire Police said.
The 19-year-old, of Audley Gate in the city, subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the side of a building in Westgate, forcing two people to jump from the car's path to avoid being hit.
Halani then ran from the scene but was traced through CCTV footage and found sitting in a restaurant, where he was arrested.
At Peterborough Magistrates' Court, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
