The bridge was closed on Tuesday evening after sensors clocked wind speeds of 60mph.
National Highways advised drivers to allow extra journey time.
The announcement follows a day of disruption due to high winds caused by Storm Bram.
Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in weight can no longer use the M48 Severn Bridge crossing.
There are worries over the knock-on impact on traffic but National Highways says safety is key.
The restriction, banning heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, is to help future-proof the bridge.
Resurfacing on the Prince of Wales Bridge will take more than six months longer than planned.
The works will take place on Monday from 18:00 BST to 06:00 BST on Tuesday.
There are currently no delays in the area and traffic is flowing normally.
