Summer weekend fares for tram and bus start

Bus and tram passengers in London will be able to travel all day at weekends for the price of a single fare during the summer holidays.

From Saturday 25 July until 31 Monday August, the Weekend Hopper fare will cover unlimited journeys on Saturdays and Sundays for the price of a single fare - £1.75.

The scheme aims to attract people more visitors to London to explore the sights of the capital during the summer period, the mayor of London said.

All children under 16 will be able to catch buses for free throughout August under a separate government scheme to help families meet costs during the school holiday.

The new Weekend Hopper extends the existing Hopper fare, introduced in 2016, which allows unlimited bus and tram transfers within one hour for a single payment.

The mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said: "Buses and trams are a lifeline for many Londoners, and I'm determined to keep them the most accessible and affordable mode of transport in the capital.

"I'm pleased that my Hopper fare has enabled millions of people to enjoy cheaper bus travel over the past decade, and this new Weekend Hopper will help open up our great city even more, as we continue building a fairer and better London for everyone."

Emma Strain, customer director at Transport for London (TfL), said: "There is so much to explore and experience in London, and public transport is absolutely the best and most convenient way to do this."

Standard bus and tram fares in London are currently frozen at £1.75, but are expected to rise in November, the mayor of London previously said.
