A pub in Hucknall that has stood derelict for more than a decade could be torn down to make way for new homes.

The Seven Stars pub in West Street closed in 2013 and the building - a substantial bay windowed property - has become delapidated.

Now plans have been submitted for 14 two-bedroom, 14 three-bedroom and two three-bedroom "affordable" houses.

Ashfield District Council said it would give a decision on the plan by 30 September at the latest.

The site was once earmarked for one of six national combined health centres but the scheme was never implemented, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Nottingham Campaign For Real Ale (Camra) secretary Andrew Ludlow, who lives in the town, said: "I always hoped it could be preserved and kept as a pub, it's part of the historic pub scene in Hucknall.

"As a resident it's one of my greatest concerns, an increase in housing but no increase in health services, making our local surgery almost impossible to get an appointment now."

Planning documents say each home would include off-street parking, either with a driveway or courtyard spaces.
