Murder arrest in search for missing boy, 15

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the disappearance of a teenager.

Taylor Charlton was last seen on the night of Friday 8 May in Barnstaple, North Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was arrested at an address in North Devon on Friday and was currently in police custody.

The force said Taylor, 15, remained missing and inquiries were taking place at a number of locations as part of the investigation.

Senior investigation officer Det Insp Charlotte Heath said the force, supported by specialists from neighbouring forces, had "committed extensive resources to finding Taylor over the last five weeks".

"Sadly, despite this, his whereabouts remain unknown," she said.

"This week, we have received new information that someone may have been involved in harming Taylor and as a result, we have taken action to fully understand this.

"That has included the arrest today of a male and his subsequent police interview."

Heath said Taylor's family had been informed of the development, which remained one line of inquiry "amid many".

"We will leave no stone unturned," she said.

"Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this difficult time."

Insp Andy Wills said the force was committed to finding answers and remained open-minded.

Wills called on members of the public to help by avoiding speculation "especially sharing any unconfirmed information online".

"Our officers are working tirelessly to ensure this and all relevant lines of inquiry are fully investigated," he said.

"We know how upsetting and concerning this news will be for Taylor's family, friends, and the wider community.

"Taylor's family continue to be updated and supported by specialist officers."

Taylor was last seen on CCTV near a footpath close to Tarka Leisure Centre and the Seven Brethren car park, at 22:41 BST on 8 May.

The force said it remained keen to hear from anyone who was in that immediate area at or around that time and thinks they may have seen Taylor.
