Work to create a junction for a new commercial development next to the M6 in Staffordshire will begin in May, lasting more than eight months.

The project will see the junction built and the road widened as part of the Stafford Gate scheme at Creswell on the A5013 Creswell Grove, close to junction 14.

The 39 weeks of work will begin on 4 May, with a one-way system put in place on 11 May towards Eccleshall. Staffordshire County Council said this would remain in operation for most of the scheme.

Other traffic management will come into place, the authority added, with warning signs ahead of any changes and signed diversion routes in place.

"This is a significant development, which will create jobs and provide local facilities which we welcome, but the road scheme providing access is a lengthy one which will impact our network," said Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways.

"Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, though for work to be carried out safely and as quickly as possible, a one-way order is needed on Creswell Grove.

"Clear signage and diversion routes will be in place throughout and we'll keep our communities updated on progress throughout the scheme."
