£3k reward offered after gym wrecked in arson
A reward of up to £3,000 has been offered for information after a gym was badly damaged in an arson attack.
Two people doused the floor of The Atrium Health Club in Reading, Berkshire, in accelerant early on 30 January, before lighting it and running away.
The independent gym, which has more than 1,000 members, reopened on 21 February after more than 150 volunteers, staff and members helped restore it.
Crimestoppers, which has offered the reward, said investigators are looking at the possibility that the arson could be connected to other crimes involving fitness centres.
After the gym re-opened, director Josh Baines said he appreciated the help given by its neighbours in the attack's aftermath.
"I think we are standing in a bit of a miracle in this gym," he said.
"The way that people came together, the way that there was some beauty that came out of the ashes that were left on this floor... from all aspects of the community. We felt so helped and loved."
Josh BainesBeth Simpson, South Central West regional manager at Crimestoppers, said the incident was "a deliberate and reckless attack".
She added: "We know speaking up about crime involving drugs or organised groups can feel intimidating - but Crimestoppers offers a completely safe and anonymous way to share what you know.
"You may think what you've seen or heard is insignificant, but it could stop another attack. Silence allows dangerous people to act again. Your information could make all the difference."
Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or provide information online.
