Man accused of murdering his mum appears in court
PA MediaA man accused of murdering his mother has appeared in court.
Essex Police was called to an address in Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood, by paramedics on Thursday morning and Janet Mansfield, who was in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gary Mansfield, 65, is charged with her murder and he has appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court via video link from HMP Chelmsford where he spoke only to confirm his name and to thank the judge.
Mansfield, of Stansted Close, Billericay, was remanded in custody ahead of a plea hearing at Basildon Crown Court on 21 September.
The defendant also faces a charge of attempted murder relating to his mother, alleged to have taken place between 1 May and 15 June.
Judge Mary Loram KC scheduled a provisional trial date for 23 November.
Essex Police previously said it was supporting Janet Mansfield's family "at this incredibly difficult time".
