Sculptures mark huge tree loss after Storm Goretti

Leaning life-size sculptures have been installed at a woodland which suffered "significant tree loss" during Storm Goretti, according to the National Trust.

The willow artwork created by Katherine Miles is on display at Trengwaiton Garden, near Penzance in Cornwall and depicts a family of three "leaning into the wind" while holding onto their hats.

The trust said 150 trees fell at the site during the storm in January 2026, which brought wind speeds of more than 90mph in west Cornwall.

Head gardener, Tom Bush, said: "With clearance work now nearing completion, we're looking forward to starting the replanting in October and beginning the next stage of the garden's recovery."

The trust said "countless" other trees were left unstable or damaged at the site following the storm.

It said the sculptures would be in place until the garden closes on 1 November.
