Black Country derby passes without major incident, say police

A Black Country football derby between Wolves and West Brom passed off without major incident, West Midlands Police said.

An 18-year-old man was arrested after a new football mural near Molineux in Wolverhampton was vandalised with blue paint hours after it was unveiled on Saturday.

Another man, aged 52, was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence following reports of disorder after last month's Wolves match against Stoke City while three other men, aged between 16 and 63, were arrested on suspicion of other offences including sexual assault and racially aggravated public order.

Wolves beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 in the match at Molineux on Sunday.

Supporters "embraced the great occasion in the right way", police said.

The damaged mural, situated at the entrance of Molineux Subway, celebrated 150 years of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

It was the first time the two teams, both playing in the Championship, had met in the league in more than five years, and in front of fans at Molineux since 2012.
