Festival celebrating Windrush generation to return
Ipswich Windrush SocietyA festival which celebrates the Windrush generation in Ipswich is returning to the town for a fourth time.
The Ipswich Windrush Society's Heritage & Legacy Music Festival will take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at Landseer Park to mark the Windrush generation's 78th anniversary.
Society founder Max Thomas said, after a record attendance in 2025, he was hoping for the 2026 event to be even bigger.
"Last year showed us just how powerful this event has become for the community," he said. "In 2026, we're building on that momentum - celebrating the legacy of the Windrush generation in a way that brings people together and keeps these stories alive."
Ipswich Windrush SocietyThe day will begin at 11:00 BST with a new parade route starting and ending at Landseer Park (Clapgate Lane entrance), travelling via Landseer Road, Rands Way, Queens Way and Nacton Road.
The parade will feature a steel band and local dance group MRD Dance.
From 12:00 to 17:00, festival-goers will be able to enjoy live music acts, a wide selection of Caribbean food, local makers' stalls, family-friendly activities and moments of remembrance.
Co-founder, Leah Tovell, said the festival was about honouring the resilience, heritage and cultural pride of the Windrush generation and creating a space where everyone feels welcome.
"Over the past few years, we've worked hard to build an inclusive, community-focused event that truly reflects the people it represents," she said.
The celebrations will continue into the evening, with an official after-party from 17:30 at The Golden Hind, in collaboration with music promoter, Reminisce.
The society is also inviting volunteers and stallholders to get involved. Information is available on their website and social media channels.
