Another heatwave and the World Cup have been popular topics of conversation across the West Country this week.

People in the region have been out enjoying themselves in the sunshine and there was a royal visitor at Gloucester Cathedral for the dedication of its new organ, while 2,000 people joined a charity walk to raise money for Salisbury Hospital.

Here is our weekly round-up of photographs from across the West this week.

Sack the sock: The use of compression socks is being phased out by the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath NHS Foundation Trust to help reduce waste.

According to the RUH, the stockings - which have long been used to help prevent blood clots after surgery - do not provide any additional benefit if patients are already taking blood-thinning medication.
