Family's 'unimaginable' loss after van driver killed in crash

The family of a van driver killed in a crash with a lorry in Aberdeenshire have said his loss has left an "unimaginable emptiness" in their lives.

Marc McGregor, 36, died at the scene after his Vauxhall Combo van and a Volvo skip loader lorry collided on the A947 near Fyvie on 10 September.

The 33-year-old driver of the Volvo lorry was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, McGregor's family paid tribute to him as a "loving partner, cherished son and devoted dad and step-dad".

Police Scotland said inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing and asked for anyone with information to come forward.

McGregor's family said they had received "kindness, love and support" from friends in the wake of his death.

They said McGregor's "greatest purpose in life" was being a dad to his son, Rhudi, and step-dad to girls Ellie and Georgie.

"They were his world, and the love he had for them was immeasurable," they said in a statement.

"His greatest wish was to see them happy, support them through life and always be there for them.

They added: "Marc was loved by so many, and his loss has left an unimaginable emptiness in the lives of everyone who knew him.

"Although his life was tragically taken far too soon, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain with us forever."

Sgt Chris Bain said the thoughts of officers were with McGregor's family.

He asked anyone with dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the crash or who saw the incident to get in touch with police.
