Barn destroyed after 'controlled burn' spread

A fire which destroyed agricultural buildings in North Yorkshire began as a controlled burn, a fire service has said.

It happened on Sunday when the flames spread to a barn and other outbuildings on Roman Road, in Leeming, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) said.

It was eventually put out with help from crews from Bedale, Northallerton, Richmond, Thirsk and Ripon, and the nearby RAF base.

NYFRS said "the fire caused 100% fire damage to all buildings", but added the cause was "believed to be accidental".
