A family-run carpet business has said it is "truly heartbroken" after a fire destroyed its base in Nottinghamshire.

Fire crews from eight stations, including an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier and a command support vehicle, were called to MCP Carpets in Hospital Road, Retford, shortly before 21:00 BST on Monday.

Hospital Road remains closed as firefighters continue to dampen down the fire. However, the Hallcroft roundabout has reopened.

The carpet company took to social media to confirm that no-one was harmed in the "devastating" fire.

"As a family-run business, this is incredibly difficult, but we are so grateful to confirm that everyone is safe and no-one was harmed," a spokesperson said. "That is what matters most.

"We want to say a huge thank you to our amazing local community, friends, family, local businesses for your support, kindness, and messages during this time - it truly means everything to us.

"To all our customers, we kindly ask for your patience while we work hard to get back up and running."

Residents were asked to keep their windows and doors shut.

In an update on Tuesday, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said two crews would remain on scene for "several more hours".

It confirmed bus services through the road are still being disrupted.
