Island postboxes decorated with Christmas toppers

Nine postboxes in Guernsey have been decorated to celebrate the Christmas season.

The postbox toppers are part of a competition run by Guernsey Post - each design features a letter that when combined spells a Christmas word.

Each design was crocheted by Tamara O'Brien, who was provided with the materials needed by the post office.

The number of toppers has increased from last year's seven and the new designs have been upgraded to include lights.

Mrs O'Brien said each design could take anywhere from a week to three weeks to complete, depending on the level of detail.

"It can take a few late nights to get them completed," she said. "If I can't find a pattern, I'll create the pattern myself.

"I have a few other projects and charities booked in next year already to do postboxes for them.

"I just want to make people smile and brighten up the island all year long."
