Scottish film and TV star Alan Cumming has donated his outfit from season four of The Traitors US to the V&A Dundee as part of the design museum's call for items which make people think of Scotland.

The museum is inviting the public to help tell the story of Scottish design by submitting items for display from 2028 when its Scottish Design Galleries reopen.

Cumming donated the first item, an ensemble featuring a tartan chest plate and a matching kilt, along with a coordinating look for his dog Lala.

The outfit was created by Scottish designer Siobhan Mackenzie in collaboration with costume designer Sam Spector.

Cumming, who is originally from Perthshire, has been the host of the US version of The Traitors since 2023.

The Hollywood star said: "I love this Siobhan Mackenzie look so much because it's got all these things I love about Scotland in it: tradition, daring, romanticism, camp and theatricality all rolled into one."

He added: "V&A Dundee, to me, stands for Scottish excellence in design and the arts.

"I think what we're really good at in Scotland is staying in touch with our tradition but also looking to the future and being progressive in terms of what we see as our Scottishness in the now.

"It's lovely to be part of a celebration of Scottish excellence and also, of course, my dog Lala's outfit being in the galleries too is just the icing on the cake".

The museum is calling for people to submit any form of item which they think has a story connecting to Scotland.

These may include: small family keepsakes, souvenirs, furniture, bikes, CDs or clothing.

Donations for the display will close after the end of August.

The Dundee location was the first V&A to open anywhere in the world outside of London.

The £80.1m museum opened in September 2018 and will be celebrating its 10th birthday when the new Scottish Design Galleries is unveiled.

The UK government announced a £2.6m investment into the new galleries last year.
