Two arrested after suspected firearms discovery released on bail

Two men, who were arrested after the discovery of suspected firearms and a suspicious device at a property in east Belfast, have been released on bail.

The security alert happened at Victor Place on Wednesday afternoon, which led to a number of homes being evacuated.

Police had received a report that two masked men with firearms were seen in the Victor Street area.

A man in his 40s and a man in his 20s were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm under suspicious circumstances.

The suspicious item was later deemed not to be viable.

Both men have since been released on bail to allow police to make further enquiries.
