A councillor has condemned a gun attack on a house in Londonderry as "reckless".

The police said they found "several gunshot strikes to the front door of a house" in the Circular Road area of Creggan on Monday night.

Det Insp Lavery said the occupant was not at home when the attack happened and was unharmed.

Sinn Féin representative Emma McGinley appealed to those behind such attacks to stop.

She said there was no support for such activity in Creggan and local people were shocked by the latest shooting incident.

She said there was no justification for the attack and no one wants to see guns on the streets.

"Creggan is a proud, positive community and people don't want this type of activity going on here," she said.

"Those involved in this attack should get off the backs of our community and if anyone has information they should pass it on to the police so those responsible can be held to account."

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious vehicles in the area or who may have CCTV or doorbell footage to come forward.
