Residents are being invited to help co-design changes to the look of one of Cambridge's main roads.

Cambridgeshire County Council has asked 5th Studio to run local events and gather feedback to see if people want improvements on Mill Road.

Possible changes could include more seating, crossings, parking, trees and planters, changes to lighting or more provision for shop deliveries, the council said.

"If there is an appetite for change, we want to know how much and what kind," said Alex Beckett, Liberal Democrat chairman of the council's highways and transport committee.

"Mill Road is loved by all of us and, if we come together now, we have a real chance to create something amazing for the whole community."

A range of public drop-in sessions will be held at local venues and on the street itself in late June and July.

The council said it had funding available for early works on the road, including £11,000 for new planters and funding for partial road resurfacing.

It said the funds would be able to support any quick projects resulting from the drop-in sessions, with larger-scale works subject to further consultation and, if wanted, to funding being secured by local authorities.

The council said informal community drop-in sessions would be held on the following dates:

  • 30 June from 12:00 to 15:00 BST and 16 July from 16:30 to 19:30, at St Philip's Church
  • 4 July from 10:30 to 17:00 at The Old School Hall (St Barnabas Centre), St Barnabas Church
  • 22 July from 16:30 to 19:30 at Mill Road Community Centre

5th Studio is also due to run stakeholder workshops and walking workshops to consider different parts of the road with local business and community groups.
