Cream tea party for hospice breaks world record

A hospice has broken a world record for the largest cream tea party.

Cornwall Hospice brought 2,483 people together in the attempt to break the record previously held by Mercedes-Benz in Beijing with 1,088 attendees.

The event at the Royal Cornwall Showground on Saturday was hosted by entertainer Johnny Cowling who said: "This is what Cornwall is all about - supporting one another."

The charity said the record attempt also marked its 45th year of supporting people across the Duchy.

Cowling added: "Cornwall Hospice has been here for decades, caring for patients and their loved ones in the hardest of times.

"I am honoured I got to play a part in bringing the record to Cornwall, where I hope it stays for a very long time."

Income generation director at Cornwall Hospice, Frazer Hopkins, said they were "absolutely overwhelmed" by the support shown by everyone who had attended.

He said: "Achieving a Guinness World Record title is a fantastic achievement, but what makes this so special is that it was accomplished by the community coming together for our hospices."

"Every person who joined us has helped raise awareness of the vital care we provide and the difference hospice care makes to local families every day," he added.
