Murder inquiry victim was kind and loving - family

A woman who died at a property in Portsmouth was a "wonderful mother, grandmother and sister", her family have said.

Carole Langley, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to a "domestic incident" at a property in Cyprus Road on Monday morning.

In a statement, her family said she would be "sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her".

Scott Langley, 48, of St Pauls Road in Southsea, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court earlier charged with her murder.

The family statement, issued through Hampshire Police, said: "She was a kind and loving person who always put her family and loved ones before herself.

"She will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love, kindness and beautiful memories will live on in all of us.

"The family would like to thank everyone who have left kind messages of condolence but please ask to respect our privacy at this very difficult time."

A mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been made in relation to the force's response to the incident.

An IOPC spokesperson said: "The force attended a report of a domestic incident where Mrs Langley was located and sadly pronounced deceased.

"We are assessing the referral and will decide whether further action is required from us."

Scott Langley was remanded in custody to appear before Winchester Crown Court on Friday.
