Arrest after man killed as car mounts kerb

A driver was arrested after a 50-year-old man in a wheelchair was killed in a crash at the weekend, police have said.

A blue Nissan Qashqai mounted the kerb on Market Street in Bradford just after 15:20 BST on Sunday, hitting the victim in the pedestrianised area, as well as a 31-year-old man who suffered serious head injuries, West Yorkshire Police said.

A 13-year-old boy suffered minor injuries, the force added. Emergency services attended and the 50-year-old man died at the scene.

A 30-year-old man from Bradford was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and other traffic offences, and has since been bailed.

The 31-year-old man remains in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Det Sgt Nina Roper of the Major Collision Enquiry Team said: "We are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision, including why the Nissan mounted the kerb, and would like to speak to anyone who saw or has footage of what happened or of the Nissan beforehand."
