An investment of more than £2m will be made to upgrade a leisure centre, according to a local council.

Edenbridge Leisure Centre will be refurbished with funding supplied by Sevenoaks District Council, in what the authority called "the biggest investment made since it opened".

Upgrades will include a refurbished gym, new fitness equipment, cycle studio and cafe area.

The council said it will speak to users of the centre to understand the improvements they want to see.

A spokesperson for the authority said the decision follows a detailed assessment of all available options.

They said it focused on "targeted, high-impact improvements that can be carried out at pace, benefitting local residents and ensuring the centre remains well used and valued by the community".

Michael Horwood, the council's improvement and innovation lead, said the leisure centre was "highly valued by the local community", adding that the £2.2m "demonstrates our strong commitment to its future".

The investment will come from a "mix of funding" from existing council budgets, the centre's leisure provider Everyone Active and a £1m financial contribution from developers, "subject to consideration by the council's community infrastructure levy committee", he said.
