'Loo enthusiast' creates app for rating toilets

A self-described "loo enthusiast" has created a website and app where people can rate their local toilets.

Yolanda Cuevas-Beck said she made Porcelain Report to flush out the best public bathrooms by allowing members of the community to score them across several factors.

"It is important to have a beautiful toilet," she told the BBC. "Sometimes establishments forget that.

"My mum told me back in the day you can always tell what the kitchen's like by going in the bathroom."

She added: "If they care about the bathroom, then they'll care about the kitchen."

Cuevas-Beck, from Guildford in Surrey, said what made a good loo was "clearly" cleanliness.

"I love when they have tiles from the floor to the ceiling and good lighting," she added.

"I like nice things. I don't appreciate plastic flowers and plastic pumps for the soap. I prefer paper towels."

Porcelain Report, which is available in 177 countries, allows users to rate bathrooms on their cleanliness, whether equipment is working and on their glamour, according to Cuevas-Beck.

People can rate any permanent and non-moving loo, including toilets in bars and restaurants.

She told BBC Radio Surrey she created the app to "help", adding: "I just want us to get the loos that we deserve."
