Police investigate reports of men carrying knives and bats

Police received reports of disorder and criminal damage in Dungannon on Monday evening

Police have charged three men in relation to reports of disorder and criminal damage in County Tyrone.

This comes after reports that up to 10 men armed with bats and knives were involved in an altercation in Dungannon on Monday.

A 32-year-old man and a 35-year-old man have both been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

An 18-year-old male has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

All three are expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Large group of males

Police had received a report of an altercation in the Killyman Road area at approximately 19:45 BST.

A group of men had smashed the windows and caused damage to the front door of a property, District Commander Supt Peter Stevenson said.

Stevenson added that at approximately 23:00 BST, officers on patrol came across a large group of males gathered in the Newell Road area.

"Further reports had also been received of a number of males in the area carrying knives and bats," he said.

A man had been assaulted and sustained cuts to his hands and face during the altercation. He attended hospital for treatment for his injuries.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Another man, 32, who had also been arrested following the incident has been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
