One of Scotland's only three remaining Wimpy fast food restaurants has been put up for sale in the Highlands.

The business on Dingwall High Street, which has been family-run for more than 30 years, is one of 61 branches across the UK.

Wimpy once had several Scottish outlets including Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, but today only Dingwall, Kilmarnock and Fraserburgh survive.

Franchise marketplace Daltons Business said the 56-seater restaurant was a "genuine local institution" and was on the market for £150,000.

Wimpy, which was established in the US in 1934, opened its first UK branch in Lyon's Corner House, London, in 1954.

It was the first place in the UK to serve hamburger-based meals.

Daltons Business said the Dingwall restaurant had an annual turnover of £260,000.

It added: "Trading successfully for over 30 years, Wimpy Dingwall has become far more than simply a restaurant, it is a genuine local institution with a loyal multi-generational customer base, strong community presence, and growing destination appeal."

"As the most northerly Wimpy restaurant in the UK, the business benefits not only from consistent local trade but also from increasing numbers of customers actively travelling to visit."
