Free buses for those aged 15 and under this August

Free bus travel for all children aged 15 and under is being offered across Kent throughout August.

It is part of the government's England-wide Great British Summer Savings scheme, which aims to help people enjoy breaks away for less.

Among the operators participating in the money-saving initiative are Fastrack, Arriva, Stagecoach, NuVenture, Chalkwell and GoAhead.

Spencer Dixon, deputy cabinet member for Highways and Transport at Kent County Council (KCC), called it "a great way to encourage more people to use public transport".

He said he was "pleased to support this government-funded initiative" which will "help families save money during the school holidays".

"Free bus travel makes it easier for young people to access activities, attractions and days out across Kent," he added.

"It's a great way to encourage more people to use public transport, helping build confidence in bus travel, while supporting more sustainable journeys across the county."

Cheap bus travel is also being made available to families who want to enjoy the Isle of Sheppey while the sun is shinning.

KCC is supporting Travelmasters' 360 Sunday service, which offers passengers a flat fare of just £2 per journey every Sunday in August.

The service has been described as "providing a convenient way to travel between Leysdown, Warden Bay, Eastchurch, Minster and Sheerness, making it easier for people to enjoy the island's beaches, attractions, shops and venues without the need to drive".
