Swimming pool to close over half term for repairs
Bradford CouncilA swimming pool is to be closed for essential maintenance over half term, just 16 months after undergoing a £900,000 refurbishment.
The Leisure Centre in Keighley reopened in June 2025 after it was closed for five months for new swimming pool filtration, slide repairs, electrical improvements and the fitting of solar panels.
However Bradford Council, which runs the centre, said urgent repairs were now needed to the main drain, as well as deep clean of the pool and the fixing of pool tiles.
Ian Walker, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said he appreciated the temporary closure would be "frustrating for customers".
"The works represent a preventative maintenance and improvement programme designed to protect the long-term condition of the facility and ensure the pool remains safe, clean and fully operational for customers," he said.
The pool will be temporarily closed from 23 October to 2 November, while half-term will mean schools are closed from 26 to 30 October.
The council said the rest of the Leisure Centre's facilities, such as the gym, squash courts and badminton courts, would remain open, except on 30 October.
It added the new maintenance works related to the management of "naturally occurring algae within the pool environment".
