Man appears in court after 17-hour crossbow siege

A man has appeared before magistrates in connection with a 17-hour siege at a house in Norfolk.

Darren Mahoney, of Potters Field, Gorleston, was arrested in the early hours of Monday after a neighbour reported being threatened with a loaded crossbow.

Police said armed officers, a police dog and a drone unit were sent to the cul-de-sac after the occupant refused to leave the property.

Mr Mahoney, 53, denied affray but admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a private place when he appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Police found a loaded crossbow, a machete and a Molotov cocktail at the scene.

Cordons around the house were removed on Monday afternoon.

Mr Mahoney has been remanded in custody until a hearing at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 30 September to fix trial details.
