Residents who were evacuated from about 30 properties after a gas mains leak in Stapleford in Nottinghamshire, are to return to their homes, the fire service has said.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Tevery Close at 08:57 BST on Friday and the properties were evacuated as a "precautionary measure".

Firefighters said they had now "assisted Cadent and have been able to isolate the gas".

A fire service spokesperson said: "Residents will start returning to their properties imminently and emergency service crews will be leaving the scene shortly."

The fire service previously said there had been "some speculation on social media around this being an explosion - we can confirm that this is a gas leak".

Five fire crews attended and Nottinghamshire Police was also called to the scene to assist the fire service.
