A nine-year-old boy was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition

A nine-year-old boy is in hospital in a critical condition after a crash involving two cars.

Emergency services were called to Masshouse Lane at the junction of Shannon Road in Kings Norton at about 17:55 BST on Tuesday. A man and a woman were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

West Midlands Police is appealing to anyone who might have information or was in the area at the time.

The boy remains in hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said when an ambulance arrived an off-duty nurse and police officer were performing CPR on the child.

The driver of the same car, a woman, was found with injuries not believed to be serious, and was taken to hospital after being treated at the scene.

The ambulance service said two people in the second car were assessed for minor injuries.
