Essex Police said it was not treating the death as suspicious

A man has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a beach.

Essex Police said it was called to the "medical emergency" at Marine Parade East in Clacton-on-Sea at about 11:05 BST on Friday, after reports of a man getting into difficulty in the sea.

Emergency services including paramedics, firefighters and coastguard workers all attended the incident, but the 69-year-old man died at the scene.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said its Clacton and Walton rescue teams and an RNLI lifeboat were dispatched.

Essex Police said it was treating the death as unexpected but not suspicious and a file would be prepared for the coroner.

The force said in a statement: "Officers, paramedics, the fire service and coastguard all attended. Sadly, despite colleagues' best efforts, a 69-year-old man died at the scene."
