A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after reports of a stabbing near Eastbourne seafront

A 13-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a stabbing in East Sussex.

Emergency services were called to Grand Parade in Eastbourne, close to the junctions of Elms Avenue and Cavendish Place, at about 17:10 BST on Saturday.

A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital for treatment, Sussex Police said.

"A group of young people were seen leaving the scene, and work is ongoing to locate them," the force added.

There will be an increased police presence in the area as inquiries continue

An increased police presence will remain in place while inquiries continue and to provide reassurance to the public, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
