Firefighters have left the scene of a large fire involving 200 tonnes of wood and woodchip.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said crews had left the incident after extinguishing the blaze, which started in the early hours of Thursday morning at manufacturing business Chipmunk South West on Ilminster Road in Henlade, near Taunton.

Workers at the site are now watching for any signs of the fire restarting, a spokesperson for the fire service said.

Residents and business had been advised to keep their windows and doors closed throughout Thursday due to a large amount of smoke.

At the height of the incident crews from Taunton, Bridgwater, Wellington, Burnham-on-Sea and Somerton were in attendance, with four fire engines and a water bowser.

No cause for the fire has yet been determined.
