A busy commuter road has been shut for urgent repairs after reports it was melting.

Suffolk Highways said the closure was put in place on the A143 at Stanton, north-east of Bury St Edmunds, at about 06:30 BST.

On Monday there were reports the road was melting, and the council said it was monitoring the condition with daily inspections.

Permanent repair work is scheduled for early August, depending on the weather.

During May's heatwave, there were reports that the road surface had melted on the A143 between Stanton and Ixworth.
