A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked by a gang of masked men in Litherland.

The 35-year-old victim sustained injuries to his head, face and hands during the assault on Hinton Street at 23:15 BST on Sunday, 29 March.

The attackers subsequently fled the scene along Webster Street.

Merseyside Police said at least one of the men was carrying a "long-handled weapon".

The force said witnesses were being sought and house-to-house inquiries were taking place, with police looking at any forensic or CCTV evidence.

Det Ch Insp Dave Jones said all the attackers were wearing face coverings.

"We have carried out inquiries in the local area, and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Hinton Street and Webster Street at around 23:15 last night, who saw or heard anything or believes they captured something significant on their doorbell camera or dashcam, to contact us," he said, on Monday.
