Secondaries expand to meet rising pupil numbers

Two secondary schools in Sheffield are to be expanded to help the city cope with rising pupil numbers.

Forge Valley School in Wood Lane, Malin Bridge, would undergo expansion work costing £4.5m, while another £1m would be used to pay for changes at Meadowhead School in Dyche Lane, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Sheffield City Council's finance and performance policy committee heard there was an increased demand for secondary places. This includes for Year 7 pupils in 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2028-29.

Meadowhead would increase its intake by an extra form - about 30 pupils - in each of those years, councillors were told.

Meanwhile, Forge Valley would formally expand by a total of 150 places over five years.
