About 36 jobs could be cut at the University of Lincoln

A trade union says 36 staff face losing their jobs at the University of Lincoln.

The University and College Union (UCU) said it would hold a strike ballot if the proposed redundancies go ahead.

UCU general secretary Jo Grady described the planned cuts as "completely unacceptable".

The university said the potential job losses were due to "shifts in student demand, demographic change and increasing competitive pressures".

Grady said: "There is simply nothing left to cut without severely degrading student learning, the institution's research capacity and its reputation."

In response, a university spokesperson said: "Our focus remains on ensuring the university is sustainable, agile and well placed for the years ahead, continuing to deliver high-quality teaching, strong student outcomes and playing a vital role in supporting the economy and communities of Lincolnshire and beyond."
