Water supply issues are being experienced in Grantham and surrounding areas

Part of western Lincolnshire has "very low water or no water at all" due to a problem at a treatment plant.

Anglian Water said about 3,000 of its customers in Grantham and the villages of Byard's Leap and Allington, as well as surrounding areas, have been affected.

A spokesperson said: "Our teams are still working hard to restore supplies following power-related issues at our treatment works.

"Some properties have seen supplies restored, and we're working to restore supplies to everyone else as soon as possible."

The spokesperson added that it was "proving to be a more complicated fix than first expected" with a secondary outage on Monday afternoon causing the pumps to go off again.

"We are delivering bottled water to all customers who are without water in the area, and also have tankers injecting water into the mains across the area."

School closure

Helen Hunt, head teacher of Caythorpe Primary School, said it had closed on Monday because it had no water.

"We checked all the toilets and water supply and we didn't have any supply to the school," she said.

"We had to inform all the parents that the school had shut due to health and safety and sanitation and hygiene issues."

Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group said it was experiencing low water pressure at Grantham and District Hospital, but the supply was still on.

Anglian Water said its website would be updated as the work progressed.
