Harrison Hanley's fall from an apartment block balcony in Tenerife was an accident, a coroner has concluded

The death of a young British man who fell from a balcony at an apartment block in Tenerife was accidental, a coroner has concluded.

Swimming instructor Harrison Hanley was killed on 25 April while on holiday at the Parque Santiago 2 complex in Playa de las Americas.

Liverpool Coroner Andre Rebello said the 20-year-old, from Liverpool, "died instantly from his injuries".

He added: "There is no evidence that this was anything but a tragic accident."

'Infectious personality'

Rebello said Hanley "suffered trauma from an unwitnessed fall from an internal balcony in the apartment block".

The inquest heard Hanley, of Eaton Road in West Derby, sustained multiple, life-threatening injuries as a result of a fall from height.

A tribute was paid to the "much-loved" former pupil of St Sebastian's RC Primary School in Fairfield on the school's website.

"Harrison had an infectious personality that lit up every room he walked into," it read. "He loved a challenge, he loved to laugh and he had a smile that made others smile too!

"His energy, his warmth and his incredible talent as an athlete made him someone you simply couldn't forget.

"Harrison truly lived out our school motto: 'Only my Best will do. Be kind to one another'.

"He showed kindness so naturally, gave his best so willingly and left a lasting impression on pupils and staff - past and present. The memories people hold of him are full of joy, admiration and gratitude for the time they shared with him."

Balloons were released in his memory on Wednesday at Sefton Park Field, directly in front of St Hilda's High School, followed by a walk around the park.
