Crews tackle blaze at waste processing centre
Clare Worden/BBCFire crews have been tackling a "significant" blaze at a waste processing centre.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it was called in the early hours of the morning to an industrial unit in Wendover Road in Rackheath.
At its height, six appliances attended the blaze at PSH Environmental Ltd, where the company processes domestic and commercial waste.
Simon Mason, incident commander at the service, said: "We've got the fire well under control now, virtually extinguished; we are just dealing with a few isolated hotspots, mainly in some plastic waste."
At 09:40 BST, the service said one appliance remains on scene and it would continue to check the site for hotspots and any sign of re-ignition.
Clare Worden/BBCMason said: "With these sorts of sites, the environmental runoff and the contaminants are a concern for us with the firefighting water, so as this is a licensed waste site they've got interceptors to manage their water on site.
"What we've been using is their waste water lagoon for firefighting water, and we have also been removing water from their holding tanks, which is going away for processing to deal with that firefighting runoff."
Mason said it was too early at this stage to determine the cause of the fire; however, he said the service would be carrying out a fire investigation.
PSH Environmental Ltd declined to comment.
