A café that has not changed since the 1970s has gone viral online after a visitor posted a video asking if it was the most old fashioned café in the country.

Colborne House Café, on Wellgate in Clitheroe, Lancashire, is complete with original features, an unchanged kitchen and no music.

The red vinyl seating, wood panelling and Formica tables have been preserved, and decorated with lots of memorabilia.

Owner Gillian Swales said: "It's not changed because we've never needed to, it just works for us."

"People like it so why change?" the 59-year-old said.

She said they get a lot of people visiting for the nostalgia and "a lot of the younger ones definitely coming in liking the vibe".

Gillian's husband Anthony said customers "come in with their parents, who used to come in with their grandparents".

The 55-year-old said his parents bought the former doctor's surgery in the mid 1970s and converted all the "little rooms" into the café.

During the conversions, the family preserved an original bank safe in the wall and built the counter area alongside the strongroom door.

The café serves traditional food and homemade cakes

Gillian said she uses an Aga to cook the traditional food and homemade cakes.

The café has featured in the musical movie Greatest Days when Take That filmed there.

And actors Will Mellor and Ralph Little also used it as a filming location for their factual documentary travel series Will & Ralf Should Know Better.

But the couple said their regular customers are at the heart of the café.

Gillian said a lot of them "like their own seats when they come in" for "a natter" over their pie and peas.

"If we're busy sometimes they'll even help us clear some tables," she said.

"That's how lovely they are."
