Recruitment for new Chief Constable begins
PA MediaRecruitment for a new Chief Constable of West Midlands Police has began.
Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster has opened recruitment for Craig Guildford's permanent successor following his retirement in January. Guilford stepped down three months on from a contentious decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from a match against Aston Villa in Birmingham.
Acting Chief Constable Scott Green has previously said he will apply for the role.
The PCC said he has written to every eligible police officer across the country holding the rank of Assistant Chief Constable or above to invite their interest in the post.
Foster said: "Chief Constable of West Midlands Police is one of the top jobs in British policing and I am keen to attract a wide field of top quality candidates.
The recruitment process will include several rounds of interviews before a final Appointment Panel chaired by the PCC.
"I expect the next Chief Constable to prevent and tackle crime, promote community safety and ensure that the people, families, businesses and local communities of the West Midlands are safe and secure," Foster added.
Applications for the Chief Constable opened on Friday, and will close at 17:00 BST on 24 July. Shortlisted candidates are due to be interviewed in September.
